An agent is a language model plus a harness. Real autonomy comes from the memory, the policy, and the live connections to systems of record that surround it.
Symbolic rules, not just prompts
Safety written as a prompt can be ignored or overridden. Regulated work needs deterministic, machine-checkable rules enforced before and after every reasoning step.
Every decision has lineage
If you cannot explain why an agent did something, you cannot deploy it in a regulated process. Lineage has to be designed in from the start.
